About Us

STEM AKADEMY is a private tutoring company specialized in quantitative subjects at the high school and college level. We provide personalized tutoring services to our select clientele. With individualized instruction and support from a mentor, our students are able to learn more since the lessons go at their pace and are customized to their needs. In addition, we strictly limit the number of students under our tutelage to 7 per semester to ensure that we provide the best service to our clientele.

Our teaching style is close to the maieutic method. Before we introduce any formulas, we rely on conversations and simple visualizations to help students breakdown the concepts at hand. For instance, while working on probability with one of our students we asked him to come up with a list of his 5 favorite musicians. Using this list, we asked him, how many could be his favorite of all time if he were to rank them? He responded with 5. After this was established, we asked the student, how many options does he now have left for his second favorite? He responded with 4. Using a series of questions, we were able to show how to count the total number of rankings he could make from his list of favorite artists. Over the course of this session, the student was able to derive the formula for permutations, a key concept in probability, all on his own. Over the years, we have noticed that this approach not only yields the best results over time but also bolsters students’ confidence in their scientific aptitudes.

Our focus on explaining the ideas behind STEM concepts rather than listing formulas to memorize is the main reason behind our multiple session commitment. For our approach to show its eventual results, we deem it important to build rapport with our students as well as to give them ample time to adapt to our teaching style.
